Overview

The PTDF 2026 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme offers MSc and PhD opportunities at partner universities in the UK, Germany, France, and Malaysia. UK PhD scholarships are limited to split-site programmes between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) and designated UK partner universities. The scheme aims to develop indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology for Nigeria's oil and gas sector.

  • MSc: Minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in first degree, or Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  • PhD: At least Second Class Lower (2.2) in first degree and a good postgraduate degree
  • Completed mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
  • Computer literate
  • Five (5) O'Level credits including English Language and Mathematics
  • National Identity Number (NIN) fully verified prior to application
  • MSc: Statement of Purpose (max 500 words) stating rationale, relevance to oil/gas, expected contribution to national development
  • PhD: Research proposal relevant to oil and gas (max 5 pages)
  • All lecturers must submit a letter from Vice-Chancellors confirming no current scholarship benefits
  • PhD applicants in Germany (PTDF/DAAD partnership) must secure a research supervisor prior to final selection interviews
